Found out this evening that there have been at least fourteen different women who’ve attended the Wednesday afternoon knitting gathering begun just a few weeks back. Just yesterday there were eleven all cozied up in the back room at Pleasant Street knitting and yakking up a storm. Would seem Deb’s hit onto something. Mark your calendar for Wednesdays 4:00 and come on out.
I hate snow shoveling – a better idea from PaulD

Thanks to PaulD a neighbor in the association for telling us about “sleigh shovels”. I’d never heard of such a thing. He then took it a step further finding that if six of us went in together for this quantity we could get a volume discount. One thing leading to another and I’m now the proud owner of a Sleigh Shovel.

They had a great turn out. By the time I showed up late for the men’s auxilery to grab a pic several of the women had already left for the evening. DebD, MargaretB, Wanda, MagdaV, PeggyL, MargeF, CarolS and AnaK all showed, shared and evidently had a grand time. I understand they’ll be meeting again the same time next week, 4:00, 1/14, Pleasant Street Coffeehouse.
Viral knitting

Not sure how this applies to ‘neighborhood preservation’ other then the building of ‘community’ often hinges on folks coming together socially simply to enjoy shared interests. Who knew it would be knitting?
It would seem that some latent, smouldering passion for knitting has lain pent up just under the surface among many of our friends and neighbors simply awaiting the subject being broached. Now released it’s gone viral. I understand there are over a dozen now who’ve expressed an interest in getting together to… well, knit.
So come on out and join DebD and the rest at Pleasant Street Coffeehouse next Wednesday 1/7 at 4:00.

If you don’t get the paper…
a nice little piece on some neighbors and friends, the Forbecks.
We’re big fans of the paper in order to keep in the loop on what’s happening though the website is handy to check on stuff which is how I came upon this article on the Forbecks.
Elgin’s Gifford Park Association receives the National Trust’s Trustees Award

Just heard from a friend over at GPA about their having just received the Trustees Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The video above and a quick one-pager below outlines some of the issues this neighborhood was dealing with, what they did and some of the positive outcomes. It’s do-able. I’d asked if my friend or someone from GPA might be willing to come up and talk to our group.
BTW, it you’d like to see other video produced by the National Trust for Historic Preservation they’ve got a YouTube channel here.

My favorite bit from one of my favorite movies… Mr. Blandings builds his dream house.
I love that she doesn’t even give him the spool of thread… she pulls off a three inch thread.
“uh-huh…”
