From the Friends of Riverfront website.

Plein Air painterThe plein air painting workshops are held during the annual ArtWalk weekend. The instructors will set up in the skylit studio of the Wright Museum at Beloit College or, weather permitting, the open air of the campus or riverfront; both pastoral scenes with a backdrop of historic structures.

On both days sessions are offered in your choice of oil or watercolor instruction. Each full day session will include a 2 hour demonstration in the morning on how to select a subject, plan and execute a finished piece using color to display light. The afternoon will be devoted to applying the plein air style in either oil or watercolor. Instructors will be available to provide individual help each afternoon. So bring your preferred painting medium and canvas and be prepared for prevailing weather conditions. Lunch will be provided.

Cost is $25 per session*.

Bloom is a great event, a lot of fun and helps make all the things we enjoy down at the riverfront possible.

Well, there’s that and they’re also a wonderful bunch of folks. So create and donate something for the auction and/or come on out for the auction as well.

Hope to see you there.

Kids Fun and Drama – KFAD

Beloit’s Music and Acting Troupe for Kids.

This is an AMAZING program. We’ve know of KFAD and the kids have participated. I didn’t know they have a website. Cool!

And…

[feigned shocked vocal tone]

They practice and perform right here in our neighborhood! Our kids can walk or ride their bikes to participate. Keep the car in the garage folks. :)

So anyway,

Spring Production in the Works

The next KFAD production has been cast, and the kids are already hard at work learning their songs and lines. This Spring’s show is The Return of the Glass Slipper, a funny update of the Cinderella story. The shows are scheduled for April 17–19. The performances on April 17 and 18 are at 7 PM, and the matinee on April 19 is at 2 PM. We hope to see you there!

I’ve put this on the NPA calendar as well.

Kinda nice having a great college for a neighbor.

Prior to moving to the area I lived in Evanston IL, another ‘college’ town. So when I was considering where to move in the stateline area the fact that there is a college here was very attractive to me.

Though I was unsure how it might manifest, my expectation from prior experience was that living in a college town would add a layer of arts, entertainment, educational opportunities and… well, sophistication. Though neither of us teach or work at the college we’re frequent beneficiaries of the college being just down the street. It couldn’t be more convenient. We likely take advantage of what’s available more often precisely because it’s adjacent to the historic district. Additionally, we’ve had the opportunity to meet some very interesting neighbors who are professors or otherwise work there.

So with that as preface I was very pleased to see in the mail yesterday the Beloit College Arts & Lectures Calendar. There are many things we’ve circled that we’re now hoping to attend. Some great stuff. I’ve updated and expanded The Beloit NPA calendar with these events and others. Hope to see you out at some of these events.
